France

Xavier Gérard is a family-owned Northern Rhône domaine in the Rhône Valley, led by Xavier Gérard since he took over from his father around 2012–2013. The estate farms steep, craggy terraced vineyards in Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie and Saint-Joseph, with prized schist soils and all work carried out by hand. The domaine is transitioning to full organic certification, practicing organic methods with low yields and using copper sulfate only when necessary. Gérard oversees the winemaking himself, favoring spontaneous fermentations, whole-cluster fruit and élevage in older demi-muid barrels for a low-intervention style.
