Podere Sapaio

Italy

Podere Sapaio is a family-owned Tuscan estate in Bolgheri on the Costa degli Etruschi, founded in 1999 by engineer Massimo Piccin, who still owns and runs it. The vineyards are worked by hand and have recently moved to organic farming, with a broader ethical, sustainable approach centered on prevention, plant care, and respect for the environment. Notes emphasize the influence of sea breezes, light, and varied sandy-clay, limestone, and pebble soils on the wines’ character. Piccin leads the project with technical guidance from Carlo Ferrini, focusing on meticulous work in both vineyard and cellar. The estate is best known for Sapaio and Volpolo, and also shows a distinctive identity through ongoing links with art, architecture, and cultural collaborations.
