Negroamaro is a flagship grape of Puglia, where it covers approximately 11,000 hectares. Its producers range from the Vignuolo growers’ cooperative, representing 250 members, to small family estates and historic holdings such as the Zecca family, established in 1580. The region’s approach to farming and winemaking is diverse: Masseria Masciullo is certified organic, while Agrinatura holds USDA Organic and Demeter Biodynamic certifications; other producers are conventional. Notable figures associated with Negroamaro include Sebastiano Iannuzzi, Lisa Gilbee, and Giancarlo Ceci. Together, they reflect Puglia’s varied wine culture, from cooperative production to artisanal, family-led estates.
