Gran Clos is a boutique estate in Priorat, Catalonia, working steep hillsides and terraces of llicorella—dense black slate and quartz. Its vineyards include vines more than a century old, with Garnacha and Cariñena at the core alongside smaller plantings of international and white varieties. Viticulture is intensive and manual, with hand-harvesting, low-intervention winemaking, minimal sulfur and virtually organic practices, though no formal certification is mentioned. The estate focuses on single-vineyard, old-vine cuvées shaped by Priorat’s rugged soils and concentrated, mineral character. Josep Àngel Mestre, raised in Falset and from a family with more than 50 years of regional winemaking, is the listed winemaker. Gran Clos also cultivates almonds and olives, producing a small quantity of olive oil.
