Fonseca is a historic Port house in Portugal’s Douro, established in 1815 and long associated with the Guimaraens family, now part of the Taylor Fladgate & Yeatman group. Its Vintage Ports are drawn from three key quintas—Panascal, Santo António and Cruzeiro—and are noted for a rich, lushly fruited style that gains opulence and complexity with age. Family continuity has been central to the house, with Bruce Guimaraens and later David Guimaraens shaping the wines across generations. Fonseca also stands out for its close vineyard focus and leadership in sustainable viticulture: Quinta do Panascal is organically certified, Santo António is farmed under a sustainable model and is certified organic for grapes and olive oil, and in 2006 Fonseca became the first house to release a Port made entirely from organically grown grapes.
