Barbicaia is a small family winery in Nottola, near Montepulciano, operated by owner Marco Barbi on his family’s farm. Born on the property, Barbi returned to winegrowing in the late 1990s after studying design and working in furniture design. He replanted and modernized the vineyards, selling grapes until 2011, when he began producing wine under his own name. The vineyards are described as 100% organically farmed, without stated certification. Sangiovese is the focus, supported by Trebbiano, Grechetto, and Malvasia Bianca Toscana. The wines are described as elegant and fragrant, with small, untoasted Burgundy barrels bent with steam used to preserve Sangiovese’s varietal character.
