Azelia

Italy

Azelia is a historic family estate in Castiglione Falletto, Piedmont, founded in 1920 and now led by Luigi Scavino, his wife Lorella, and their son Lorenzo, the fifth generation. The winery works exclusively with estate vineyards in Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d’Alba, and Montelupo Albese, focusing on local varieties including Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto. Vineyard work is largely by hand, with hand harvesting, green harvests, preservation of old vines, and limited treatments using copper, sulfur, pheromones, and organic manure rather than chemical pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. In the cellar, Azelia follows a traditional, low-intervention approach: spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, long submerged-cap macerations for Barolo, and no filtration or clarification. The wines emphasize typicity, cleanliness, balance, and drinkability.
