Mas Macià is a family-owned estate near Òdena in Penedès, with an 800-year history and vineyards at 450 metres on limestone soils. The Bohigas family, including Jordi Casanovas Bohigas and Maria Casanovas Giró, produces estate-bottled Cava by the traditional method, ageing it for 24 months on its lees. Mature vines and the high-altitude setting contribute to later ripening, crisp acidity, elegance and complexity, with wines matured mainly in stainless steel and partly in French oak. The vineyards are organically certified, with plans for fully organic Cava production. The estate is also associated with L’Olivera’s cooperative social-impact model, which employs young people with mental disabilities.
