South Africa

Arendsig is a fifth-generation, family-run estate in Bonnievale in South Africa’s Robertson Wine Valley, owned and led by proprietor and winemaker Lourens van der Westhuizen. Established as a single-vineyard wine estate in 2004, it focuses on handcrafted, site-specific wines from semi-arid vineyards with rocky, mineral-rich Bokkeveld soils. Lourens follows a minimal-intervention philosophy, using spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, no added enzymes, minimal acidification, and maturation in neutral vessels rather than new oak. The wines are intended to reflect the distinct terroir of each vineyard block. The estate also offers farm accommodation and experiences near the Breede River, connecting its wines with the surrounding landscape and family farm life.
