Ely by Callaway Cellars

United States

Ely By Callaway Cellars is a privately owned California producer with roots in Temecula Valley, where Ely Reeves Callaway Jr. began planting vines in 1969. The Callaway family sold the business in 1981, and the Lin family acquired it in 2005. Its history includes the first Callaway vintage in 1975 and recognition of Temecula as an official wine region after Queen Elizabeth II was served Callaway Riesling. Winemaking is led by UC Davis-trained Phil Hurst. The portfolio includes California wines from Temecula, Napa Valley, and Paso Robles. Ely wines from Paso Robles are described as rich, robust, and highly extracted, reflecting long hang time and extensive barrel use, while the Napa range emphasizes Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, including structured Reserve Cabernets.
