Domaine Léon Barral

France

Domaine Léon Barral is a family-owned estate in Faugères, Languedoc-Roussillon, founded in 1993 by Didier Barral, a 13th-generation winegrower who is also the winemaker. Working on calcareous shale slopes, the domaine has farmed biodynamically since 1995, with a polycultural approach that includes cover crops, animal grazing, natural fertilisation, composting, and biodiversity measures such as bat boxes and worm colonies, all without chemical treatments. Old, low-yielding vines are hand-harvested and sorted, then fermented with natural yeasts in a low-intervention style, with no sulphur added until bottling and only very low levels used overall.
