Woodward Canyon

United States

Founded in 1981 by Rick and Darcey Small, Woodward Canyon is an independent, multigenerational family winery in Lowden, at the heart of Washington’s Walla Walla Valley. The Smalls helped establish the Walla Walla Valley appellation, and their estate vineyard—planted in 1977 on a former wheat farm—is the valley’s westernmost. It is Salmon Safe certified, with organic farming and biodynamic experimentation forming part of the winery’s broader sustainability efforts. Jordan and Sager Small now hold leadership roles, continuing the family’s hands-on approach. The winery produces Bordeaux- and Rhône-style varieties, with Chardonnay regarded as an iconic Washington expression, alongside wines sourced from respected vineyards elsewhere in the state.
