Barbacan is a family-run estate in Valtellina, Lombardy, owned by Angelo Sega and his sons Matteo and Luca. Since Angelo passed day-to-day management to his sons in 2011, the brothers have led both vineyard work and winemaking, with Angelo remaining as an adviser. Their steep terraced vineyards sit at 400–750 meters on sandy granite and schist soils. Certified organic, the estate follows a natural, traditional approach with manual farming, no irrigation, limited copper and sulfur, attention to biodiversity, wild fermentations, and minimal sulfites. The focus is on Chiavennasca alongside other ancient varieties, expressing Valtellina through careful, low-intervention farming and cellar work.
