Van Hunks is a privately owned sparkling wine brand based in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, launched in 2020 with sparkling mead before adding Cap Classique in 2021. Production is overseen by 12th-generation winemaker Matthew Krone, whose family has a 300-year winemaking heritage. The wines are made in the traditional method with extended lees ageing, locally hand-harvested grapes, and a focus on South African Cap Classique rather than Champagne styles. Van Hunks emphasizes pesticide-free growing, water conservation, advanced sustainable farming systems, and collaboration with a sustainable farm to reduce its carbon footprint. Its portfolio includes Brut, Brut Rosé, Prestige Cuvée, Chenin Blanc sparkling, and non-alcoholic sparkling wines, combining precision and patience with an informal, adventurous character.
