Château La Bécasse

France

Château La Bécasse was a tiny Bordeaux estate whose four hectares comprised 22 parcels interspersed among the vineyards of Château Latour, Pichon-Baron, Lynch-Bages and Pichon-Lalande. The gravelly, clay-limestone vineyards were manually harvested, producing a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Fermentation took place in stainless-steel vats, followed by 22 months of oak ageing, including one-third new barrels. Production was extremely limited, and the 2009–2010 bottlings are now rare. The Fonteneau family sold the estate to Château Latour in 2011; the original Château La Bécasse label ended after the 2012 vintage.
