Bigi

Italy

Bigi is one of Orvieto’s historic producers, with roots reaching back to the founding of Casa Vinicola Luigi Bigi in 1880. Based near Orvieto in Umbria, the winery is closely associated with the region’s prestigious white wine and works with 145 hectares of owned vineyards in the classic Orvieto DOC area. The hillside sites, planted predominantly with white grapes at elevations between 150 and 450 metres, have mainly clay soils. Since moving in 1972 from its original home in the former La Trinità monastery to a modern winery at Ponte Giulio, Bigi has combined advanced winemaking equipment with traditional ageing in large casks and barriques. Winemaker Paolo Nardo, a qualified viticulturist and oenologist with experience across white, sparkling and red wines, has led the cellar since 2017.
