Family-run Tenuta La Viola lies on the rolling hills of Bertinoro in Romagna, where clay and limestone soils shaped by the Spungone rock and marine sediments influence the wines. The Gabellini family has owned the estate since 1962, with Stefano Gabellini overseeing winemaking. The vineyards have been organically certified since 1999 and managed with biodynamic practices since 2018, including hand work, cover crops, and attention to biodiversity. The estate focuses on native Romagna varieties, especially Sangiovese and Albana. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, fine-lees ageing, large wood, and concrete are used to express vintage and place. A FIVI member, Tenuta La Viola describes itself as artisanal rather than industrial, with sustainability reflected in its use of lightweight bottles.
