Castello Vicchiomaggio

Italy

Castello Vicchiomaggio is a historic family-run estate in Greve in Chianti, in the heart of Chianti Classico, owned and managed by the Matta family since 1964. Set around a fifteenth-century castle overlooking the Val di Greve, the estate farms vineyards in Chianti Classico and at Villa Vallemaggiore in Maremma, cultivating Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. John Matta and his family emphasize careful attention to soil and vineyard diversity, traditional methods, low yields and responsible agriculture; the estate is certified under Italy’s VIVA sustainability programme. Wines include Chianti Classico and IGT Toscana labels, with each wine reflecting its place of origin. The family’s work has received repeated recognition from international wine competitions and critics, while hospitality, dining and tastings form part of the estate experience.
