Val di Toro is a family-owned estate in Maremma, Tuscany, founded by Anna Maria Cruciata and Hugh Constable Maxwell, who moved there in 2003 and transformed former cattle pastures into vineyards. The estate has farmed organically since 2004 and has been Bioagricert-certified since 2015, using solar power, electric vehicles, green manure, cover crops and vegan winemaking. Anna Maria leads winemaking within a predominantly female management team, while family members remain involved in harvests and tours. Hand-picked grapes produce clean, elegant wines combining modern techniques with traditional methods, including Sangiovese-based reds and rosés, Vermentino whites, and smaller quantities of Montepulciano, Ciliegiolo and Grechetto. The estate also makes natural wines without added sulfites.
