O Estranxeiro

Spain

O Estranxeiro is a family-owned winery in Galicia’s Ribeira Sacra, founded in 2019 by winemakers Eulogio Pomares and Rebeca Montero, formerly of Bodegas Zarate. The estate works organically farmed vineyards on steep slate-and-granite slopes above the Sil River in Amandi and the Miño River in A Cova. Farming avoids artificial fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides, and grapes are hand-harvested. In the cellar, the approach is minimal-intervention, with native yeast fermentations in chestnut botti and concrete, aging in old wood, and only minimal SO₂ added before bottling. The focus is on sustainable farming and transparent winemaking led directly by its founders.
