Colombaio di Cencio

Italy

Colombaio di Cencio is an estate in Gaiole in Chianti, Tuscany, founded in 1993 by German entrepreneur Werner Ernest Wilhelm and acquired in 2018 by the historic Barolo producer Fontanafredda. The estate practices certified organic and sustainable viticulture across its vineyards, which are situated at high altitudes on galestro and limestone soils. Winemaking, led by oenologist Marcello Burgio, follows a classic philosophy, vinifying grapes from different crus separately and aging primarily in large barrels to express the purity of Sangiovese, while also producing a Super-Tuscan blend called 'Il Futuro'.
