The Hilt is a boutique California estate focused on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the cold coastal margins of the Sta. Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley. Inspired by Rancho Salsipuedes and its Bentrock, Radian, and Puerta del Mar vineyards, it emphasizes site transparency through low-input farming on poor soils that encourage deep rooting and low yields. Winemaker Matt Dees leads a program built around single-vineyard and small-batch wines, alongside style-driven blends split between the taut, structured “Old Guard” and the richer, more fruit-driven “Vanguard.” Owned by Stan Kroenke, The Hilt sits alongside Jonata and Screaming Eagle in his portfolio.
