Montecalvi

Italy

Montecalvi is a small, family-run estate just above Greve in Chianti, in Tuscany’s Chianti Classico region. Owned by the Drake family, it has produced wine since the 1400s and underwent a renewal from 2017, with attention to restoring old vines and native Italian varieties. Its vineyards are ICEA-certified organic and farmed sustainably, including careful hand harvesting, selective picking, and gentle pruning focused on vine health. Winemaker Tim Manning, who has more than 20 years’ experience in Tuscany and elsewhere, oversees a minimal-intervention approach in which little is added and nothing is removed. The historic Le Terrazze vineyard, planted on dry-stone terraces in 1932, is being preserved and renewed. Montecalvi also produces extra virgin olive oil from estate olives.
