Almaviva is a Franco-Chilean estate in Puente Alto, in Chile’s Maipo Valley, founded in 1997 as a 50/50 partnership between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Viña Concha y Toro. Conceived as the first Chilean wine created under the French château model, it focuses on exceptional terroir and a dedicated technical team. In the high Maipo, its vineyards sit on rocky, well-drained soils under a semiarid Mediterranean climate influenced by the Andes. Farming and winemaking emphasize underground drip irrigation, hand harvesting and sorting, and gravity-fed vinification. Winemaking has been led by Michel Friou since 2008, following Patrick Léon and Tod Mostero.
