Producer

Mount Riley

New Zealand

Founded by John Buchanan in 1992, Mount Riley is a fully family-owned Marlborough producer, with the next generation involved in its operation: daughter Amy Buchanan manages the winery and her husband, Matt Murphy, is winemaker. The family’s vineyards span the Awatere and Wairau valleys, including distinctive sites ranging from dry-farmed, high water-holding soils to stony terraces and low-vigor silt loams. Fruit is farmed under a Sustainable label, reflecting an environmentally responsible approach. The estate’s vineyard diversity supports a Marlborough style shaped by site differences, with Sauvignon Blanc particularly prominent.
