Producer

Montes

Chile

Viña Montes, operating under the Montes Central Valley label, is a large-volume producer in Chile's Central Valley, making roughly 800,000 cases (about 9.6 million bottles) annually. It was co-founded by Aurelio Montes, Douglas Murray, Alfredo Vidaurre, and Pedro Grand, with Aurelio Montes serving as president, head winemaker, and ambassador. The winery focuses on quality through low-yield, hillside vineyards—notably its Apalta estate in Colchagua—and emphasizes sustainable practices like dry-farming, though it holds no formal certifications. Its scale reflects a shift from modest beginnings to a significant operation while maintaining a quality-first philosophy.
