Marqués de Riscal

Spain

Founded in 1858 in Elciego, Marqués de Riscal is a family-owned Rioja Alavesa estate under the Hurtado de Amézaga family. Rooted in clay-limestone vineyards around Elciego and Laguardia, it is known for a long history of innovation, from introducing Bordeaux-inspired methods in Rioja to helping pioneer modern white winemaking in Rueda. The estate farms organically and has developed extensive vine-rejuvenation and regenerative practices focused on soil life, biodiversity, and climate adaptation. In the cellar, manual harvesting, berry-by-berry sorting, parcel-by-parcel vinification, and a stated minimal-intervention approach aim to preserve varietal purity, freshness, elegance, and terroir character.
