Fontanacota

Italy

Fontanacota is a family-owned estate in western Liguria, founded in 2001 and rooted in vineyards cultivated by the family since the 1930s. Its vines span the steep, terraced landscapes of Val Prino near the sea and the higher Valle Arroscia around Pornassio, where mountain conditions suit Ormeasco and Moscato. The estate grows indigenous varieties including Vermentino, Pigato, Rossese, Granaccia, Ormeasco and Moscato, producing Riviera Ligure di Ponente and Pornassio DOC wines. Vineyard work includes conversion to Simonit & Sirch-style branched pruning, while seasonal green manure, reduced pesticide use and integrated pest-management principles are also reported. Marina Berta directs winemaking and the cellar, while her brother Fabio manages the vineyards. The range includes mountain Moscato, Vermentino Superiore, Ormeasco Superiore, Sciac-trà and traditional-method sparkling wines.
