Fita Preta Vinhos

Portugal

Fita Preta Vinhos is an Alentejo producer founded in 2004 by António Maçanita and the late David Booth, and today is led by Maçanita as co-owner and principal winemaker. Based in a 14th-century palace in Évora, the estate works its own Alentejo vineyards, including sites on rocky schist soils. Farming follows organic, dry-farmed principles without formal certification, with non-irrigated vines and night hand-harvesting. In the cellar, the approach is low-intervention: careful bunch sorting, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, gravity-fed racking, stainless-steel ageing, and no oak. Maçanita’s hands-on role and the winery’s traditional yet precise methods define its style.
