Founded in 2020 by Finnish entrepreneur Mikko Alkio, Clos Alkio is an independent winery in Gratallops, Priorat, with vineyards in Gratallops and nearby Lloar. Alkio owns the estate and serves as its winemaker, personally directing production. The vineyards include old Garnacha and Cariñena, including Cariñena planted in 1939, alongside Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and other varieties, rooted in Priorat’s mineral llicorella soils. Vineyard work is carried out by hand, with no irrigation, herbicides or pesticides. The winery follows an ecological, organic-style approach using natural products and yeasts, low sulfur, and a focus on natural diversity, although no formal organic certification is noted. Wines are made under the DOQ Priorat appellation, including reds and whites, with a sparkling Cava also produced.
