Il Cancelliere is a small, family-run winery in Montemarano, at the heart of Irpinia’s Taurasi zone in Campania. Founded by Soccorso Romano, it remains rooted in the Romano family farmhouse and vineyards, with vineyard work shared by Soccorso, his wife Pasqualina, and their son Enrico, an agronomist. The estate focuses on indigenous Aglianico from north-facing, clay-calcareous hillside vineyards at 450–630 metres. Grapes are hand-harvested in November, while winemaking follows traditional, minimal-intervention practices learned through generations and developed with oenologist Antonio di Gruttola. Wines are made without filtration, fining, stabilization, or added sulfites, and are matured mainly in non-new wood to preserve the character of the territory. Il Cancelliere is also a founding member of V.i.T.I., a network of artisanal Irpinian producers.
