Founded in 1992, Giovanna Madonia is a family-run artisanal estate in Bertinoro, Emilia-Romagna, owned by Giovanna Madonia and her daughter Miranda Poppi. Its 14 hectares lie on the Montemaggio ridge, at 250–350 metres, on the highly calcareous local spungone soil. The vineyards preserve native varieties, including Sangiovese and Albana, and use the traditional alberello training system. Farming follows organic principles with minimal pesticide use, while certification is pending. Winemaking is conducted with few sulphites, spontaneous fermentations and long macerations, followed by ageing in a historic eighteenth-century underground cellar using steel, wood and concrete. Production is entirely artisanal, with Leonardo Conti and Attilio Pagli overseeing the enology.
