Domaine Saumaize-Michelin is a family estate in Vergisson, in Burgundy’s Mâconnais, founded in 1977 by Roger Saumaize and Christine Michelin and now joined by their children Vivien and Lisa. Working across Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran and Mâcon appellations, the domaine has farmed organically for about two decades and biodynamically since 2005, without chemical weeding or insecticides, with close attention to living soils, microbial life and plot-specific flora. Old vines, hand harvesting, yield control and separate vinification of each parcel shape the wines. In the cellar, fruit is gently pressed and fermented in barrel, with élevage of around a year, limited new oak, and generally no filtration, aiming for wines that reflect the terroir and geology of Vergisson.
