Castello di Fonterutoli is a historic Tuscan estate in Chianti Classico, owned by the Mazzei family since 1435 and recognized as one of Italy’s oldest family-run wineries. Led by owner-winemaker Giovanni Mazzi, the estate is rooted in long family continuity and a strong connection to place. Its vineyards are organized into seven sub-zones, with predominantly stony soils that shape the estate’s identity as a “wine of the stones.” Farming is described as sustainable, with low-pesticide vineyard management. Alongside its Chianti Classico focus, the family has also expanded to Belguardo in Maremma and Zisola in Sicily.
