Founded in Haro in 1895, Martínez Lacuesta remains family-owned and is now guided by fourth- and fifth-generation members, with Álvaro Martínez leading the winemaking. Its vineyards lie in and around Haro, in Rioja Alta, where environmentally sensitive viticulture and traditional knowledge are combined with carefully adopted modern techniques. The house is known for fine, classic Rioja wines marked by finesse, balance, freshness and a restrained style, using traditional vinification, manual gravity racking and American oak ageing alongside modern facilities. Martínez Lacuesta also has a distinctive vermouth tradition dating from 1937, including barrel-aged vermouth made with a traditional blend of 24 botanicals. A historic Haro producer, it continues to evolve while preserving its family identity and connection to Rioja’s origins.
