La Spia

Italy

La Spia is a family-owned Valtellina estate, held and managed by the Rigamonti family since 1962, with Michele Rigamonti at its head and Emil Galimberti directing the winemaking. Working terraced, rocky hillside vineyards across Valtellina—including the Sassella area—the estate focuses on Nebbiolo (Chiavennasca), combining traditional care with technical innovation. Its wines range from fresh, briefly macerated IGTs and Rosso di Valtellina to elegant Valtellina Superiore DOCG, matured in large oak casks, while limited selections receive extended ageing. Recent work includes vineyard renewal and expansion into neighboring sub-zones; no formal sustainability certification is listed. La Spia also explores white winemaking and other innovative expressions alongside its classic alpine Nebbiolo.
