Producer

Filippo Cassano

Italy

Filippo Cassano directs and owns the family-run Polvanera estate in Puglia, where he serves as owner, director and winemaker. The estate’s vineyards lie at around 300 metres on the limestone Altopiano delle Murge, in iron-rich soils, and are certified organic by ICEA, with biodynamic practices also noted. Cassano follows a low-intervention approach, using mechanical weed control, minimal chemical treatments, rescue irrigation only, native-yeast fermentations and no oak barriques. Trained at the Basile Caramia school, he focuses on Primitivo—including the flagship Calx—and other indigenous varieties.
