Domaine Barge

France

Domaine Barge is a family-owned estate in Ampuis, Côte-Rôtie, established in 1860 and now run by Julien Barge. Working organically across Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Saint-Joseph, the domaine follows a traditional, nature-focused philosophy that emphasizes manual vineyard work, biodiversity and natural balance. Synthetic treatments were eliminated in 2018, sulfur additions to white wines stopped in 2016, and sheep grazing was introduced in 2020. Low yields aim for concentration, while the estate’s Côte-Rôtie wines express steep stone terraces, Syrah and distinctive volcanic geology, including the historic Combard parcel. Julien continues methods passed down through his family while developing the domaine’s long-standing commitment to its appellation.
