Château Malescasse

France

Château Malescasse is a historic Haut-Médoc estate in Lamarque, between Margaux and Saint-Julien, founded in 1824 and owned since 2012 by Philippe Austruy. Since his arrival, the vineyard and winery have been extensively renovated, with consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt helping reshape vineyard and cellar practices. The estate is certified HVE level 3 and farms with a sustainability-minded approach, including reasoned pest control, parcel-by-parcel management, limited inputs, and cereals planted between rows to improve soils and biodiversity. On its gravel-rich terroir, planted mainly to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, Malescasse emphasizes selective plot use, gravity-flow handling, gentle extraction, long vatting, and aging in oak to craft dense, silky, classically styled Haut-Médoc wines.
