Family-owned Castello di Torre in Pietra lies in Lazio’s Roma DOC, within a medieval village whose tufa cellar has been used for wine production and storage since the 1500s. In the family for four generations and directed by Filippo Antonelli and Lorenzo Majnoni, the estate has been certified organic since the early 2000s. Its vineyards on gentle hills of tufa and breccia are farmed without GMOs, herbicides, pesticides, insecticides, or synthetic fertilizers, with sulfur dioxide kept to a minimum. Wines are made exclusively from estate-grown grapes, with fermentation in stainless steel, storage in concrete, and wood ageing for the most important reds. The estate’s long agricultural history includes its transformation into a model farm by Senator Luigi Albertini after its acquisition in 1926.
