Founded in 1952 in Canale, at the heart of Piedmont’s Roero, Mario Costa remains a family-owned estate run across four generations of the Costa family. The winery works exclusively with estate-grown grapes, cultivating native varieties including Arneis, Barbera and Nebbiolo on Roero’s marine-origin, rocky soils. Its approach balances tradition and technology: hand pruning and manual vineyard work remain central, while modern equipment supports rather than replaces human skill. The estate emphasizes traceability, environmental responsibility and integrated production, with SQNPI certification. Its wines are organized into Petali, for traditional varietal expression; Superiore, focused on elaboration and research; and Selezioni, made from selected grapes. Luca and Giuseppe Costa serve as enologists, maintaining a distinctly hands-on connection between vineyard, cellar and the wines’ Roero identity.
