Founded in 1845, Ippolito 1845 is Calabria’s oldest existing winery and remains family-owned, now led by fifth-generation brothers Vincenzo and Gianluca Ippolito. Based in Cirò Marina, the estate comprises around 100 hectares across three holdings in the Cirò DOC, between hills, plains and the Ionian Sea. Since 2013 its vineyards have been farmed organically, with reduced soil cultivation, rational irrigation and key vineyard work carried out by hand. The winery focuses exclusively on Calabria’s native varieties, including Gaglioppo, Greco Bianco, Calabrese, Pecorello and Greco Nero. Its history includes helping establish the first Cirò production regulations in 1969 and pioneering local bottling. Production follows a sustainable approach, including lighter bottles and low-intervention practices.
