Domaine Grand Montmirail

France

Family-owned Domaine Grand Montmirail sits in the Dentelles de Montmirail in the southern Rhône, with vineyards across Gigondas, Vacqueyras, and Beaumes de Venise. Bought by Denis Cheron in the 1960s and now led by Yves Cheron, a fourth-generation family member who is also winemaker and cellar master, the estate focuses on low yields, manual harvesting, and gravity-fed vinification. The domaine describes its approach as sustainable, with farming practices aimed at preserving soil life and terroir expression, and notes a full conversion to organic farming by 2020. In the cellar, parcels and varieties are handled separately, extraction is gentle, and élevage avoids wood influence, with minimal sulfites, to preserve natural aromas, tannins, and authenticity.
