Founded in 1921, family-run Couly-Dutheil is led by Arnaud Couly and owns the historic Clos de l’Echo and Clos de l’Olive vineyards in Chinon, as well as vineyards in Saumur and Saumur Champigny. Clos de l’Echo faces Chinon’s medieval fortress and is farmed using environmentally respectful practices, including grassed rows, weather and disease monitoring, and limited treatments. The estate describes its approach as sustainable rather than organic or biodynamic certified. In the cellar, low extraction, indigenous yeasts, minimal sulphites, gravity-led handling and little filtration aim to preserve freshness, fruit and site expression. Its wines range from refined, elegant cuvées to the more powerful Clos de l’Echo, and the estate also uses responsible packaging for selected wines.
