Founded in 1867 in Canelli, Contratto is one of Italy’s historic sparkling wine houses and is now owned and run by Giorgio Rivetti and the Rivetti family of La Spinetta. The estate focuses on vintage Metodo Classico sparkling wines, including Alta Langa DOCG and Asti Spumante DOCG, with winemaking led by Giorgio Rivetti and Andrea Rivetti. Its vineyards in Bossolasco and Canelli are planted mainly to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and the notes describe organic farming or organic viticulture, including certification cited for the 2021 Alta Langa. The wines mature in Contratto’s remarkable underground “cathedrals,” while the house also continues producing Vermouth and liqueurs using long-standing recipes and techniques.
