Château Les Cabannes is an organic estate in Saint-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens, just south of Saint-Emilion in Bordeaux. Bought in 1997 by Peter and Brigitte Kjellberg, the property was largely replanted and rebuilt under their direction. Peter, the first Canadian to graduate in oenology from the University of Bordeaux, trained at Château Haut-Brion and later worked with Michel Ponty at Château Grand Renouil. The vineyard is split between Saint-Emilion clay soils with iron deposits and gravelly parcels near the Dordogne, planted mainly to Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Farming is certified organic, with mechanical soil work, ploughing, and efforts to strengthen biodiversity through tree and hedge planting. The estate produces Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Saint-Emilion, and a small amount of Bordeaux red.
