Château la Croix des Pins is an organic estate in Mazan, between Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail, producing wines from the Ventoux, Gigondas and Beaumes-de-Venise appellations. Organic farming has been practiced since 1998 for the Ventoux vineyards and since 2012 for Gigondas and Beaumes-de-Venise, with manual treatments, minimal sulfites and Ecocert/EU BIO certification. The estate’s long history includes ownership by the Papal government and a family that retained it from 1735 until the 1980s. Eric Petitjean and oenologist-vigneron Jean-Pierre Valade took over in 2009 and established the estate under their name in 2010. Valade’s winemaking emphasizes Rhône-style blends of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, with restrained oak and a focus on the region’s character.
