Castello di Montepò is a family-owned Biondi Santi estate in the Maremma Toscana, near Scansano, set among woods, olive groves and hills. Jacopo Biondi Santi acquired the property in the early 1990s, while his son Tancredi serves as host and lead winemaker. The vineyards lie at 300–460 metres on clayey schist and sandstone soils, with south-southwest exposure. The estate focuses on the family’s proprietary Sangiovese Grosso BBS11 clone, alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Vineyard work combines cover cropping, careful pruning and thinning with weather-station monitoring and scientific mapping. In the cellar, stainless-steel fermentation, long macerations and extended oak ageing shape structured, age-worthy reds, including the distinctive Schidione, expressing a personal and contemporary interpretation of Maremma terroir.
