Pettenthal is a historic single-vineyard site in Nierstein, Rheinhessen, on the steep, south-facing Roter Hang. Its 30–40% gradient makes viticulture necessarily hand-worked, with limited mechanisation, low yields and labour-intensive production. The soils are lime-rich, stony clayey loam with Rotliegend/Rigosol, calcareous clay and fine sand, at elevations of 90–170 metres. Once owned by the church, Pettenthal is now part of the Rehbach collective vineyard. The site’s demanding slope and distinctive, mineral-rich soils define its artisanal character, while no specific modern ownership, sustainability certification or winemaker is identified in the available information.
