Vinification & maturation
Italy
Cantine Lento is a four-generation, family-run winery based in Amato, Calabria, with vineyards across the DOC Lamezia and IGT Calabria zones. Managed by four generations of Lento women, the estate combines Mediterranean viticultural heritage with a focus on indigenous varieties, including the recovered Magliocco, Greco Nero, Nerello, Greco Bianco and Zibibbo. Its vineyards overlook both the Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas, while olive groves, woods and other plantings support biodiversity. Farming includes mechanical rather than chemical weeding, organic fertilisation, hand harvesting, reduced water use and solar energy. The winery’s low-impact, partly underground facilities are designed to preserve freshness, while its underground barrel cellar supports the maturation of structured red wines. Lento’s wines range from fresh, elegant and convivial expressions to traditional, richly aromatic and structured examples of Calabria’s native grapes.
